A beach walk from Currumbin to Kirra dedicated to the late Surfing Saint Denis Callinan is open to the public for a gold coin donation. Proceeds will go back to the Denis Callinan Trust with SAND (Surfers Against Nature’s Destruction), Surf for Life and the GCTOP (Gold Coast Traffic Offenders Program), an initiative that Denis personally constructed and contributed to the legal system all being beneficiaries.

The Denis Callinan “All Roads Lead to Kirra” beach walk will begin at 7am on Sunday 8th of November from the south side of Elephant Rock, Currumbin and progress to Kirra . The public are asked to use the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary carpark for parking, and a shuttle bus has been provided to pick up the walkers from Kirra and return them back to Currumbin.

The Callinan Family is super stoked about the beach walk being dedicated to Denis. A permanent plaque in  his memory is to be mounted on the building between Elephant Rock Café Restaurant and Matt Butel’s physio on Tues 27th of October. Denis Callinan was an internationally respected surfer/solicitor and prolific fundraiser, much loved and much missed. His contribution to humanity and connecting up people to worthy causes was legendary.

A super keen surfer whether it was Burleigh, Hawaii, Samoa or the Miami/Mermaid beachbreaks that he learnt to surf in, Denis created Surfers Against Nuclear Destruction in the early 80’s involving Peter Garret and the Midnight Oil Band. He unexpectedly passed away in January 08.

The Denis Callinan beach walk will provide sunscreen and drink stations along the route at various Surf club intervals namely Tugun, Bilinga and North Kirra, and by the way Denis loved his beach walks!
