Australian Surfing Movie Festival

The Jim Beam Australian Surf Movie Festival – National Tour Oct – Nov 2009 -
By Director Tim Bonython
It had to happen the Australian Surf Movie Festival was destined to showcase a good stack of my old “gold” footage.
I’ve been shooting surfing since 1978 with my first trip to Hawaii. Since then I went on to create dozens of films.
The theme of this year’s festival is :
The Past, the Present & the Future
The Past, I will be showing the best of some of my classic’s like the Hawaii Nine O series, Gripping Stuff, Biggest Wednesday, Download, Lost in Space & the Snuff series..
Some of those flicks are over 20 years old so you are going to notice the huge change in pretty well everything since then till now.
The Present, we look at all the amazing footage that I have shot from this year within Australia & overseas.
The Future is our finale, with the best junior surfers in the nation been towed into the biggest waves ever surfed in an event in this country. The shark-infested wave in South Australia rarely breaks but did with all its glory with
20 to 40 foot faces. Simply amazing stuff & goes down as one of the greatest events & trips I have covered.
There has been a huge contrast in the change of surfing since I have been shooting, so with this year’s Jim Beam ASMF we will show you that change with the past, present & future.
ASMF is in our eighth season & it’s all on the big screen with the big sound, which is the only way to view it.
There will acoustic music by talented musician Nick Saxon & heaps of door prizes to be won & given away.
So if you’re into all time surf films on the big screen, come & experience a great unique night out with the Jim Beam Australian Surf Movie Festival touring nationally in October & November 2009.
See you on the road …
Tim Bonython
